The University of KwaZulu-Natal is located on many campuses. Each campus is home to a large population of students and staff, equivalent to or larger than many universities. Our executive leadership decided that it is necessary for people who study and work on a campus to share the space beyond mere accommodation and use of facilities.
Sharing should include optimum cooperation to achieve maximum efficiency in the way we deliver services. In addition, we need to know our environment well enough to identify our strengths, successes, weaknesses, opportunities, failures and threats.
The Pietermaritzburg Campus Management Forum seeks to do this by bringing together the leadership of different support divisions, including the student representative council (SRC) on a voluntary basis. Within a short space of time, we have increased each other’s understanding of how to identify challenges and resolve them as a team. The Forum also seeks to have good relations with stakeholders around the campus, including government, residents and businesses.
We have a team that has innovative ideas to make life on and around the PMB campus safe and happy. These include projects on food security, clean space, and increased security. Our staff and students are working together cordially and share ownership of our successful projects. These are still at the initiation stage, but promise to grow fast with a great impact on the reputation and brand of UKZN.
We look forward to cooperation and support of all University members and stakeholders, particularly with respect to participation in our projects. We are proud of our campus and its surroundings and commit ourselves to making the area the one that all staff, students, stakeholders and visitors respect, value and cherish.
